About Us

We areThe International Karate Organization Kyokushinkaikan – (IKO Sosai Wales) is the sole legal entity representing Masutatsu Oyama’s Kyokushin Karate system and philosophy and is run by the Oyama family. Our Kyokushin Karate is based on the original techniques first demonstrated in Tokyo by Mas Oyama.

Our Chief Instructor is WALES IKO BRANCH CHIEF Shihan Lee Costa, a 7th Dan Black Belt who represented Wales many times and was also a Welsh and British title holder in Kyokushin

IKO Kyokushinkaikan “Sosai”, Is the official recognised IKO Kyohushinkaikan….
It is organized by Sosai Mas Oyama’s daughter, Kurstina Oyama, which by court order has the rights to Sosai Mas Oyama’s Honbu, and own the rights to The Kyokushin kanji, and the kanku, which are registered trademarks and are protected by copyright laws to the Oyama family and IKO kyokushinkaikan Sosai.

We are proud and humbled to be a part of the IKO Kyokushinkaikan, we will strive to continue Sosai’s Way of Budo Karate and his legacy, to ensure the highest standards of teaching and learning of Kyokushin karate, among its welsh kyokushin karateka members here in Wales, plus we will aim to maintain the integrity of Kyokushin and its high standards.

Welsh Kyokushinkai Karate (IKO SOSAI WALES) looks forward to holding a range of training camps, competitions and seminars to encourage national and international friendship world wide

there are just a few things that will be needed to be seen for grade recognition

Black belts 1st Dan and above will be reconized if the person has

A. Graded with a recognized Kyokushin world body

B. Has a Kyokushin grading book showing their grade

C. Has Kyokushin black belt certificates

All the above three points to be verified by the IKO SOSAI………….

“Our philosophy is to allow each individual to develop at their own pace, and within their own abilities.”

Everyone is welcome to join, regardless of race, colour or religion, this is the Kyokushin way. However, individuals with a serious medical condition will required the written permission of their doctor before training can be permitted.

The Instructors and Assistant Coaches will, at all times, act in the best interests of the adults and children under their care. While every care is taken by the instructors and assistant coaches to minimise injury during training: knocks and bangs can occur between individuals, which result in bruises, abrasions and cuts. Occasional muscle strains may also occur. All instructors and coaches are volunteers.
